Optimal Optimus is a toy with a commanding presence. His big chonkin' limbs and solid body say "I'm large and in charge." I didn't think it was possible, but these upgrades enhance that factor in bot mode. The rear wheels bulk out the sides of the shins just that little bit more, as do the wings for the arms as a whole. When you combine the size of the wings with the industrial bits of the fans and wheels, Optimal Optimus looks akin to a war machine. He completes the transformation when you hang the swords from the back and give him his new orange rifles. You can picture him lumbering across the battlefield like a giant, and it's awesome. The combined robot mode is where I get the most out of this kit.

Reaching the arms out to properly grab the combined front wheel in truck mod is a mess, and I'm still unsure if I bent a pin somehow. And while the rear wheels spin and roll very well, the front wheel has way too much friction to wheel around. This kit sadly adds no new tabs or locking methods to better hold together the tank mode or jet mode.

The weapons are a bit iffy as well. The sword handles are only 5mm at the bottom, meaning that the smaller Optimus in the set does not hold them tightly; they spin around in his grip. Meanwhile, the tabs on the big orange rifles for the base bot's palms do not slide in tightly. In fact, really only one side of one gun has a tab that holds in satisfactorily. It's something I've been meaning to fix with floor polish, but it still kinda stinks that my silly robot toy could not hold both of his unofficial guns at once (first world problems, eh?).

On a more positive note. the gorilla modes, both combined and not, benefit in presence from the wings, and the uncombined mode's back is really helped by the wheel filler. It helps sell the whole "mechanical gorilla" thing.

All in all, I would say that your mileage may vary based on the combination of QC in your base toy and upgrade kit. If your base toy's tolerances are good enough and you have a good front wheel in this set, you might be able to pull off the truck mode. You'll definitely get the most out of this kit in the combined bot mode, and even with the fix-it-yourself weapons, I'd say that this was worth it.

This is such a great product for your Optimal Optimus! Really steps up where Hasbro left off and completes the figure all around. Well worth the wait and the price.

Well made, good plastic, excellent paint matching. Made Optimal Optimus feel complete! From the Beast Wars generation, so I had to have the tank mode. (Even though tank mode kinda looks like a robot lobster on wheels. It is VERY cartoon accurate!).

This is a awesome upgrade if you have potp optimal optimus you need this set it makes every mode better and best of all gives him his tank truck thing. Only complaints the front wheels are hard to get into the hands and the back of the ape mode but otherwise amazing.
