Like many I was worried after seeing the initial photos of Bumblebee. The chest looked far too big, bordering on fat. After seeing this toy in colour I was still very worried. However, I am glad to say that all those fears have been swept away.
The vehicle mode
Vehicle mode is a Suzuki Swift. It is smaller than an Alternator/Binaltech but is, in my opinion, much more detailed. It features 4 opening doors, dashboard with steering wheel on the right hand side (being British that is a nice addition), an opening boot and bonnet with engine inside. The wheels roll nicely but they do not turn unlike Alt/Binal's.
The robot mode
Bumblebee in robot mode is an upgrade of his G1 self but is still recognisable unlike some other iterations of the character (take not Michael Bay). Transformation is very reminiscent of the G1 toy. The legs pull out from underneath the main body and the head is located at the rear of the car. For weaponry, he has two pistols that are attached to the legs. The handle folds out of the gun and slots securely into his hands. They are pretty small but they suit Bumblebee. The head mold is extremely accurate and you can instantly recognise the character. A nice feature is his horns, which fold into the head during transformation. It doesnt have a lot of back kibble which is always a plus. The only complaint I have is the feet which are very small but sturdy. The chest is nowhere near a large as the photos have led us all to believe. When compared to the G1 toy, the G1 Bumblebee is actually a lot fatter than this toy.
Conclusion
A nice sized toy and a decent transformation. Due to his size he is not exactly in scale with Alt/Binal and Masterpiece but is not too far off it. He comes to half way up MP-01's upper legs. If bad photos have put you off this toy, ignore them and judge for yourself. You will not regret it.
