As an avid G1 fan, growing up on the original show, comics, and toys this bot hits all the notes. Far and away Jazz was my favorite autobot. Takara has never given Jazz his due. Downbeat is everything I love and more! He is a solid bot, the engineering is amazing. Taking into account what his G1 form looked like save for a few compromises to make an effective and intuitive transformation he is spot on. His alt mode is a perfect representation of the 1973 Porsche 935. Jazz is the reason I fell in love with that car. Adding this bot to your collection is a must if you're looking for a more complete G1 lineup.

He really is that good. And despite what others say the transformation is not really that hard. There are couple things you need to pay attention to but I actually enjoy the process with him. He looks amazing in both modes and his die case thighs and abdomen make him feel really great in hand. Very high quality and HEAVY. And he fits right in with my official carbots perfectly. He is more pose-able than early MPs like 10 to 29 but a little less so than say anything from Inferno forward, for the most part. But you can definitely do a lot with him.

Received my Maketoys Downbeat and it is awesome. I want to thank TF Source as I actually ordered 2 and I am keeping both C9 MISB. They look beautiful on the shelf and were packed perfectly to protect them thank you.

I enjoyed this purchase a lot! Very fun for me to pose and transform him
Pros: very hefty (diecast), mostly toons accurate, sturdy, good accessories, nice paint, fun to handle, decent transformation
Cons: upper calf kibble not toon accurate & affects poseability a bit, stickers not toon accurate, no weapon storage, legs might be a bit fidgety
maybe FT would do better but I got Downbeat for less than $100 so I still think it's worth it

This is the best thing I've ever seen come from a 3rd party company. The quality is stellar, the transformation is really fun, the look is absolutely spot on. I freaking love this thing. I think I might like it more than my official MP figures.....

This is the best Jazz out there. Details are great, one of the best non-cheap looking cars on my shelve. Matches up with any of the Fanstoys cars. A bit light as its more plastic than Fanstoys, but doesn't look plastic at all (looks expensive)

I've been waiting for this figure for a long time and it didn't disappoint, until it did. The spoiler snapped off during transformation. Looks like it was held by 3 tiny pegs. Returned to TFS and they said they would repair (glue it back on?) or exchange if unrepairable. I will return for a refund if it breaks off again. Sad at least one other person in the reviews is having a similar issue.

What to say about Downbeat.
For my first MP Jazz, I'm in love.. It's the perfect mix between the G1 toy and toon look. If you haven't already, do it now. Do yourself a favour and pick him up today. The transformation is very clean, I only had one problem with the rear wing, but it was my fault. Alt mode, its very accurate and he could be a stand in for a model car. The bot mode is again spot on, they've really captured the spirit of the character. The articulation is really good, the backs of his legs aside, he moves perfectly and poses easily . 5 stars all day long.

Only one (1) word comes to mind when describing MakeToys Downbeat (Jazz) (premium version):
Perfection!

Aside from a few weird quirks in the engineering (legs and torso mainly) this is still one of the best third party figures you can get. If you missed the standard version then get this, you won’t regret it. Only complaints are again the leg transformation and torso (although it doesn’t untab as much as it used to) and the paint on the visor requires the utmost care or it’ll chip. Still pretty sweet

Takara still hasn't put one out...and this version of Jazz, dow beat is gonna be hard to top. Super intuitive transformation and so solid...you can transform and play with this without fear of breaking it. And it hits all the G1 checkmarks. This premium version has the Toy Deco which i have fond memories of the original g1 toy. So glad I made this purchase.

Downbeat is amazing. Very happy with this purchase. Very poseable and it looks great. Transformation is intuitive and fun. All the stuff I heard about the legs being finicky isn't really true. If you're looking for a jazz, grab this one. Really happy with it

I have to say the transformation on this is elegant and pretty easy. Really appreciate a transformation that feels like I can remember it without looking and is fun to do. On top of that he looks perfect. He looks like Jazz, every inch of him. Absolutely love it.

Super excited and so glad this was my choice for Jazz. Easy transformation and I love the accessories! A little confused with the extra reflective sheeting.
Only thing I would change is better hands.

Excellent figure, excellent price.
It can be a bit of a challenge to work out the order conversion in order to get the best clearance to move bits around - most notably the leg extension (which I dig the mechanics of).
Perfectly scaled with 1st party MP carbots.
Transformation allows for door wings if you are into that.
If I had to gripe, there's no weapon storage (but that is common with HT MPs as well).

This figure looks awesome. Came with the extra stickers as listed. Very well made. Looks like he did in the cartoon.

After a long wait, Maketoys has finally reissued this classic. He looks fantastic, everything tabs in place perfectly, and is well articulated.
The line work on the stripes is flawless, the paint on the legs is well done, and not a loose joint to be found. The new decos makes him look similar to the G1 design, and are cleanly done.
The instructions could use some fine tuning, but there are no stressful moments while transforming where you are worried something will break.
He scales perfectly with other MP carbots, and is priced fairly.

Downbeat's transformation is a bit complex, but that's one of the few complaints I have. His car mode is beautiful, as is his bot mode, and he includes just about every gadget I can remember Jazz using in the cartoon. The included sticker sheet wasn't great (I went with Toyhax's instead, having purchased it back in the summer), but a lot of the new paint apps make up for that. One gripe I have is that they painted the "Agent Meister" stripe on the spoiler, but their stickers are semi-transparent (and Toyhax's completely so), so it can't be properly covered up. Nothing a bottle of white paint can't fix, and not enough to knock Downbeat down a star. Beautiful looks, beautiful articulation, and now I've got my favorite 'bot.

As a transformers fan who has been waiting for a Takara release of Jazz I am very impressed by the work Maketoys has done with this toy.The transformation is a bit complicated when it comes to the legs but it’s satisfying. The amount of accessories is impressive as well.He comes with his rifle, rocket launcher, grappling hook and speakers for his shoulders and hips. The toy is also very nice to look at.This new version of downbeat has a nice paint job especially in the leg department.Plus there are areas that are made for him to resemble his G1 appearance. He also comes with alternate faces but one is a bit funny looking. All jokes aside this toy is definitely one to get so hurry before he sells out fellow TF fans you won’t regret it.9/10
